Happy Birthday Josh
My room mate has been listening to Cindi Lauper on repeat for the last two hours, it's driving me crazy. I realize I complain about him a lot but who else can I complain to? In the last few days I've came across some very weird people. On the subway the other night I made the mistake of sitting because an either drunk or crazy man. He had a beer in between his legs and was reading the Toronto Star. He would skim through the headlines and start shouting his thoughts on the subject. He was so angry at those headlines and some of the stuff he was rambling on about was actually making some sense. My next subway ride I saw an overweight, grungy looking couple in their 60's standing together waiting for the subway to come, all of a sudden the women started yelling " Oh god Harold your disgusting!!!! I'm breathing it in! I can't stand beside you, it smells so bad." and then she ran ten feet away. Harold just did one of those evil, silent giggles when your shoulders move up and down. Today I went to a part of Toronto where you can always find interesting characters, Dufferin and Bloor, aka: where the closest Walmart is located. Anyway I saw this old, old, old, frail lady with a hunch back and she was wearing huge, huge sunglasses with neon orange sides, the kind of sun glasses my brothers wore when they watched Ninja Turtles. The list goes on. When I walk to the subway every morning at 6:55 a.m. there's this Chinese lady standing high up on her porch swinging her arms around majestically, kind of like Gislene Courtney does in Church. Oh man, that was bad I hope Christina doesn't read this anymore. My apology's but it's true. So the other day I was on the toilet again and a I saw the HUGEST spider of my life!!! I'm serious, it was black with those bulging eyes. I grabbed the can of raid and sprayed that demon until it ran into a hole in the wall. Now every time I go into the bathroom my heart is beating 100 times a minute and I look in every crevasse over and over. I hate living like this, can't spiders just stay out of houses? I guess I'm no different than all those crazy people I just wrote about.
So as you might have already heard there is a TTC strike. It started at midnight on Friday. Poor Josh was over at my house and left to go home at midnight but had to take a taxi instead. It's pretty far to his house. I guess a lot of people got stranded that night because they said they would give 48 hours notice but according to the National Post it was only one hour. Saturday I had to work a special event at the club. I don't know if you remember my post last year about the James Bond themed party but this was the same thing only the theme was The Oriental Express. There was a huge lit dance floor, belly dancers, Can Can dancers, traditional Russian dancers, a big band, dozens of other musicians, a violinist who would play absolutely any song you requested, 5 ft ice sculpture, a enormous dessert buffet, and so many other amazing things. Each room was another city and the guests were in groups, every 45 min the group would move to the next city. I was working in Budapest Hungry. We served wine from Hungry, cherry soup, paprika chicken, and this weird creamy cucumber salad. While we were serving there were traditional dancers and musicians preforming. It was pretty crazy, we literally only had 1 minute before the next group came before we had to clear and set all the tables. It was really fun. I got to bring home an entire cheese cake! So because of the strike my supervisor, Renata picked me up and drove me home. Everyone showed up to work which was pretty amazing. As for today, the strike ruined all my plans. I was going to go visit Anita and Eiko because Anita is leaving for Germany tomorrow. She doesn't know when she'll be back, could be a month, could be several. Then I was going to meet Josh because today is our 6 month anniversary, but that got cancelled too. So today my plan is to go fully explore that trail near my house, get some pizza, and study some Spanish. Anyways, the strike is supposed to be over tomorrow and everyone can go back to work.
It's that time again.... my movie reviews!!!!
I'm not going to post all my pictures of Center Island, but here's a few of them. Kevin took a lot of good ones, there on facebook.

KeveeenoKevin taking a pic of an eggNo strike tomorrow, that means I 'm going to work :( My room mate was supposed to be out by tomorrow but I have seen no signs of him packing. Maybe the date was extended until the end of the month or maybe he convinced the land lords to let him stay. Whatever. I went to Toronto Island with Kevin and Nathan yesterday. We were only there for like an hour but the weather was so perfect and I had a really good time. I have pictures but I'm waiting for Kevin to post his first since he has better ones.
Today was 24 degrees outside, tomorrow is 22. It's like we had spring for one week and boom, summer arrived. I was supposed to work at that synagogue today but it wasn't meant to happen. The subway was going one mile per hour so I got off and took a taxi. It was rush hour so I still ended up being late. Someone was going to pick me up at one of the subway stations but if I wasn't there the said they couldn't wait. Of course I missed my ride so I just went home. Anyway, the TTC is going on strike on Monday if they can't make an agreement by Sunday. For those of you who don't know the TTC is our public transportation (subways, buses, and streetcars). So if they do go on strike I don't have to go to work right away, but I have to wait for my boss to call me and he'll arrange a ride. It's all so exciting! I joined Zip Car today, have you heard of it? There are zip car locations every where in the city. When you need a car you just call zip car and they activate the closest car to you. it cost $11.50 and hour, $72 a day, gas is free, and you have reserved parking. You carry around this swipe card that unlocks the car you reserved. I'm glad I don't have to worry about gas, it's 120.0!!! I'm gonna do some driving soon, maybe I'll finally explore the outer area's of Toronto.
I went to see the dentist today for the first time in 2 years. It was pointless. The guy just told me I needed a root canal, he didn't even tell me what was wrong with my tooth. I was the only patient in the office which made it feel kind of strange, usually dentist's offices are packed. He said it would be ok for a few months on it's own. I don't know what to do.
Tamara, your funny. I laugh every time I read your blog. Just thought I would start out with that. So I was having some intense tooth aches in the last month and yesterday half of my top wisdom tooth crumbled off. Sickkkk, I know. The pain is gone but now I have to deal with the dentist , I wouldn't mind but I don't have dental coverage. I can't even afford to just get it pulled out so it might just have to stay damaged until June when I get dental from the NC. Some good news, Josh and I discovered this amazing trail like two minutes from my house. It has this beautiful creek beside it. I'm going to start jogging and that's where I'm going to do it. I was going to join soccer this year but the games were too far away, and at 9:00 a.m. on Sundays. I want a car, I want to go on holidays, and I'm tired of both my jobs. I'm currently in job hunting mode.
I got my passport today. I was happy until I saw my birthday was wrong. Seriously, why doesn't a bird just crap on my head, I'm getting tired of all this bad luck. And my landlord!!!! Every time I put clothes in the dryer she comes and takes them out while they're still wet and puts hers in. That is so rude, I would never even imagine doing that to someone. There's more... I have this big crack in my door and people can see in my room if they really wanted to. Today I covered it up with tape. Today while I was taking a pee a spider with a white bum crawled from under the door and charged at me. It wasn't a pretty picture. In the end I won and the spider died a slow death. I rolled some coins today, I ran out of penny rollers and I still have a million pennies. I walked past McDonald's today. It's almost been three months since I last had it. I wanted some nuggets so bad, but I fought it and went to Subway instead. I want to see Tamara's new eyebrows.
I need to get motivated. I keep saying I'll find another job, I'll get in shape, I'll join a soccer team, I'll get a hair cut, I'll bring all my old clothes to the salvation army, I'll call Anita. There's something about spring that makes me want to get off my butt. Yes, spring has shown itself here FINALLY! I saw two people wearing shorts today, the birds were having parties on my front lawn and the man in the wheel chair across the street was sun tanning on his driveway.
At the theater I work at we just got our first digital projector! It's so cool, we control it through a touch screen computer and instead of film the movie is on a portable hardrive. The other day at work we got it running and sat in the theater to watched some of it. The image is amazing, no scratches or little black spots. It was cool to see but at the same time it was kind of depressing because slowly the digital projectors will take over the the movie theater world and us projectionists will loose our jobs. Not that I want to be a projectionist for the rest of my life but there are a lot of die hard projectionists out there.
